HCG affects the hypothalamus, a small almond-sized gland in the brain that, among a multitude of important functions, regulates your metabolism via control of the endocrine system. It basically knows how heavy you are and tries to maintain that weight come what may.
The HCG Diet protocol requires daily injection or application of HCG through Phase 1 – weight loss (P1). In combination with a very low calorie diet of only 500 calories per day with absolutely no dietary fat, oil or sugar males can lose up to ½ kilogram or 1 pound per day, females slightly less.
There are two P1 durations: to lose around 7 kg or 15 lbs dieters should choose the 26 day program. The 43 day program is required to lose up to 15 – 20 kg or 34 – 40 lbs.
Under the influence of HCG during P1, abnormal body fat is burned and used for energy. Contrary to a normal calorie restricted diet where exercise is essential to protect muscle, HCG only targets fat for weight loss hence exercise is not required.
Another benefit is HCG dieters do not feel hungry because in addition to the 500 calories eaten as food, as much as 4,000 calories from your own body fat may be re-metabolized daily signaling your brain that you are receiving all the calories you need. This allows your weight ‘set point’ to be under-ridden. In the absence of hunger, reinforcement of daily satisfying weight loss means you are more likely to stick to the diet.
The weight loss phase is followed by Phase 2 – stabilization (P2) which lasts 21 days. P2 is like a mini Atkins diet. Elimination of starchy carbs and sugar for three weeks is essential to reinforce your brain’s now lower weight ‘set point’. Although you return to normal calories, strict avoidance of starchy carbohydrate and sugar must be observed otherwise you will experience a disappointing increase in weight just like any other diet. Potatoes, rice, noodles, pasta, pastry, pizza, bread and all processed foods with flour or sugar in it must not be eaten during P2.
Phase 3 – maintenance (P3) is 21 days. A completely normal diet is gradually resumed by slow introduction of starchy carbs and sugar one at a time to see which, if any, make your weight fluctuate. If any affect you adversely you will have to take these in small quantities in the future or avoid them altogether.
After completing the HCG Diet Program your body will be reset for permanent maintenance of your new lower weight thus this program is called the closest thing that exists to an ‘Obesity Cure’.
