Author and dermatologist, Dr David Colbert advocates the elimination of sugar as the single best thing you can do to prevent ageing. This includes most processed foods and beverages.
The High School Reunion Diet starts with a two-week cold turkey detox phase where dieters are encouraged to eat real food such as leafy green vegetables, fruits, nuts, lean meats, healthy fats, fish, eggs, herbs and spices. All junk and processed food, starchy carbs and sugar are eliminated during this stage. Water is the beverage of choice along with tea and coffee.
The second phase of High School Reunion Diet lasts two weeks or longer. Whole grains are re-introduced along with a glass of wine at dinner. Processed foods are still off-list other than rolled oats, canned fish in water, and beans. All forms of sugar are out.
The message is that all processed foods that come wrapped, canned or packaged contain unhealthy fats, salt, sugar, preservatives, coloring etc. Addiction to these poor-quality foods needs to be replaced with real food.
